Dentures are made out of high-quality dental materials. At one time they were constructed out of such things as ivory, bone, or even wood; however, with today’s technology, they can be crafted out of ceramic, porcelain, or other compounds that are more durable and more closely mimic the appearance and function of your natural teeth.
Dentures are created to be placed in your mouth, either, by fitting over your gum tissue (in the case of full dentures) or by being held in place with anchors (in the case of partial dentures). Whether you have full dentures or partial dentures, they may be removed for cleaning, storage, and so on.
When you come to Mabry Dental Care for dentures, first we will look at your mouth and measure any remaining teeth that you will be keeping. Then we will fabricate your dentures in our dental laboratory. After that, we will have you return to our offices for a follow up visit during which you will be given your dentures as well as instructions for their use and care.
Wearing dentures can take some getting used to. Although the technology we have today means that they are much more comfortable than they used to be, they can still cause your gum tissue to be a little sore at first.
In addition to possible sore gums, you may feel like the dentures are either too bulky or too loose. Sometimes this may reflect the changing topography of your gum tissue; other times it may be simply a matter of needing to get used to them. If you have any issues during the period of acclimation to your new dentures, we encourage you to call us right away.
